Schedule: Full-time
Shift: Day (4 - 10hr shifts or 5 - 8hr. shifts) plus call requirements
Location: 2525 S. Downing St. Denver, CO 80210
The role you'll contribute:
Participate and actively assist the surgeon in the performance of surgical procedures. Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions to assist surgeon to perform a safe operation with optimal results to patient.

  • Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records as required in position.
  • Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in accurate, timely manner.
  • Anticipates surgeons needs and functions in such a manner as to not divert attention of the surgeon from the operative field.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain focus and technical dexterity working rapidly and accurately over long periods of time.
  • Performs effectively in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Becomes familiar with and tailors assistance to personal styles of surgeons to maximize surgical efficiency and outcomes.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge and maintain efficiency during low frequency, less familiar cases.
  • Applies principles of asepsis and infection control in a variety of surgical cases.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique related to: applying and holding retractors; blotting and suctioning blood and fluid; providing hemostasis; wound closure.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective action.
  • Assists physician and surgical team in safely positioning the patient for required procedures.
  • Ensures cleanliness of environment of care and equipment and proper use of sterile supplies.
Serves as a patient advocate.
  • Anticipates needs of provider, staff, patient and family.
  • Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment and supplies to provide high-quality, cost-effective delivery of patient care.
  • Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.
Professional roles model for all staff demonstrating ethical /legal / professional nursing process.
  • Assists in in-servicing nursing staff on new equipment and procedures. Maintains high skill level through ongoing education / meeting attendance.
Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Required:
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • 3 years general operating room experience.
  • General knowledge of asepsis, healing, infectious disease process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniques.
  • Colorado Surgical Assistant or Surgical Technologist License upon hire unless performing Surgical Assistant duties within the scope of another active Colorado license, certification, or registration (required for Colorado employed staff only).
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
  • Certified as a one of the following: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by NBSTSA; Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by NSAA; Surgical Assistant Certified (SAC) by ABSA; Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by NCCSA.
